The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The single piece oak panel is even and remains stable. There is evidence of thinning in the darkest passages in the background, revealing the ground layer through the panel grain, with some paint shrinkage in the thicker dark passages of the upper right. Ultraviolet examination reveals a thick obscuring layer of varnish, with a few new scattered re-touches in the centre of the background along the panel grain.
